During the classification for the PPP World Championships in Hanover, which concluded today, all participants were assigned to one of three basic classes (1, 2, 3) according to their playing strength. Those with a Q-TTR rating from the andro rankings were classified according to this; all others were classified on the basis of the self-assessment questionnaire they completed. Subsequently, all players – separated into men’s and women’s categories – were ranked in order of playing strength, which also determines the seeding order for the individual competitions.
The base class indicates the lowest tournament class in which a player may compete in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles competitions. Players may compete in one or more competitions in a higher class, but not in a lower one.
As the classification has been carried out using objective criteria wherever possible, it makes no sense for individual players to request a lower base class. Such requests cannot be accommodated, as this would call into question the sporting integrity of the competition.
