At the PingPongParkinson World Championships, the singles preliminary round in all categories has for years been played in groups of six, with the top three qualifying for the main draw and the others for the consolation round. In this way, even players who are not as strong are guaranteed five singles matches, and any inaccuracies in the classification and seeding can be more easily compensated for by the players through good performances than in groups of four.
For the first time, not all singles preliminary round groups will be able to play on the same day – even the 90 tables are not sufficient for this. Consequently, singles will be played in only four categories on the first day, with the other two categories playing on the second day.
These will then begin on the first day with the doubles. As always, these will be played in groups of four, just as in the mixed doubles. In each of these groups, the top two pairs will progress to the main draw, whilst the third and fourth pairs (if applicable) will qualify for the consolation round. All preliminary round groups in the mixed doubles will be played on the third day of the tournament, i.e. on Monday morning.
