“PingPong is where the HeART is” – Art exhibition to mark the World Cup in Hanover
More than 30 artists from within our PPP community are presenting their works as part of the World Championships’ supporting programme. They demonstrate just how much power, beauty and expression lie in our hands. The range of pieces on display at the Akademie-Forum from Saturday to Tuesday, hailing from eight countries, is vast. It ranges from abstract and figurative painting, through watercolours and drawings, to photographs. The works were selected by a distinguished jury from around 70 entries. Three PPP athletes are behind the project: Alexine Good and Marcus Heithecker from Berlin, and Almut Knebel from Hanau.
Both table tennis and art allow people with Parkinson’s to experience moments in which the burden of the disease fades. Wielding a paintbrush, sketching with pencils or working with a camera not only trains coordination, but also brings inner peace and fosters serenity. The difficulties of everyday life recede into the background, whilst the focus is on creativity. Just how invaluable this can be is underlined by the participants’ statements, which are also documented in the exhibition. Each of their pictures is proof that, despite the disease, we can create and touch others. Let yourself be moved by these works and embark on a journey of discovery.
